Leading a team is hard. There's so much involved: personalities, time commitments, working habits, family life, beliefs, environment... you name it, it has some type of affect on your team. So, getting everyone headed the same direction all the time is a significant challenge.
I think one of the great challenges is leading a team spiritually. After all, those of us who lead teams aren't perfect, we're just willing. And maybe you're like me and you lead a ministry team and part of this type of leadership is prayer. It's so easy to go to do the work and never pause to spend time in prayer and make sure our hearts are aligned with God's.
In ministry we believe it's God doing the work and we are responding to what we see him doing.
So the paradox is obvious, it's hard to see what God is doing if we never stop to pray. Prayer is our opportunity to engage in conversation with God, instead of trying to manipulate God. If you're leading a ministry team, how is your team doing in regards to praying?
For most of us, prayer is part of our time together. But we want to lead people who are engaged at a higher level than praying in meetings. We want people's hearts to be full so they have something to give. And this can happen in really good meetings, or in Church services, or on mission trips and retreats. But eventually these experiences fade if our team members don't individually make prayer a priority in their personal lives.
And this has always been a leadership challenge for me. Sometimes my own prayer life sucks, who am I to constantly badger others about prayer. BUT there are ways to be encouraged to pray when you are in your own time. And when I'm encouraged I'm more likely to get back into the discipline of prayer. As a leader, what if you had a tool that would encourage one another to pray? What if you had a tool that would lead a team of people to pray together in their own time?
It's easier to create a tool like this than you think, it can be simply done in Google Drive. I call it a "Online Prayer Chart." It's a simple way to focus a team around praying in their individual time for people that's interactive and encouraging.
We're so excited to bring you the first Factory Media Network screen capture tutorial on how to build an Online Prayer Chart. As you'll see and hear it's not perfect but who has time to be perfect. But that's leadership right? We hope you lead your team well in prayer!
